What has our world come to? We let a tiny piece of technology take over our life when we should be focusing on the important things in life such as our family and friends. Our generation no longer focuses on the important things. We constantly let social media and the television define who we are and take over our lives. Every thing we know is based off of technology. If we don't know an answer to our homework we know someone who does, Google. If we want to know what time it is we always have a cell phone on us. Even if we have to do simple math that we should be able to do in our head we are unable to.
The advancement of technology is one example of why our generation will never be able to work together
with other people. We have no idea how different we are from the past
generations. The tiniest things that we should simply know how to do, we don’t. I was babysitting a little boy one time and he asked me what time it was. I was amazed as he was staring at the clock and was unable to tell what time it was. The little boy was 11 years old and was unable to read an analog clock. Our generation is becoming less likely to survive without technology. We know how to Google the answer when we are unsure but if it isn’t a form of
technology, we most likely don’t know how to do it. We think we can do whatever
we want and get away with it. We bring our phones to work and sit there and
text friends when we should be working. This generation has little appreciation
for what they have. Our generation has a tough road ahead of them, and if they
want to succeed they need to learn how to work for what they want.
It really is so sad that we are reliant on technology. I feel like every generation is diverging further from how humans should naturally act. For example, humans are naturally social creatures and we require face-to-face conversations. With texting and social media, verbal conversation is becoming more and more scarce and social anxiety is becoming more and more prevalent. It’s ironic how communication technology, such as facebook, instagram, text messaging, was created to connect humans, but it has only resulted in social isolation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kennedy that we spend too much time on social media becoming a generation corrupt by the quality of our virtual image. We collect followers on Twitter and friends on Facebook like they are stamps. We delete past photos and posts of our selves on Facebook or Instagram that we do not like just to maintain a perfect virtual image of who we want to be. In my opinion some of us have become a slave to our virtual self, creating ourselves as we want to be seen. Real life is about making mistakes and being you, taking chances, and the virtual life is editing to make the perfect you. To overcome this we do need to "divorce" our phones and social media devices and become more human.
